Philosophies in Lin's Work

I reviewed "Moments in Peking" again in these days and found many good sentences in Lin's work. I estreated some of them here.

"Luck, or fochi, was not something that happened to a man from the outside, but was within him. For one qualified for luck, jars of water will turn into silver; and for one who is not qualified, jars of silver will turn into water."

"We must have an attitude of expecting neither too much nor too little from life."

"I do not long for spring nor am I sad in the autumn."

"They took delight in the simple joys of fresh food and long walks."

"Everything arouses my curiosity, I have only one interest that is to know more about life, past and present."

"If you consider them trash and rubbish, then they are trash and rubbish."

"So important are little things in our life, perfectly meaningless in themselves, but as we look back upon them in their chain of cause and effect, we realize they are sometimes fraught with momentous consequences."

"It was Mr Tseng's habit never to praise or encourage a boy in his presence, They were uniformly "bad eggs", when nothing was wrong, and "seeds of sin" when sth was wrong. He never said yes to a request even by his wife; when he did not oppose or was silent, his wife knew that he had consented."——So funny and so authentic, my father is like Mr Tseng very much!

He translated “四德” like this: "character(妇德),speech(妇言),appearance(妇容),accomplishment(妇工)" and “守身如玉”as "Guard their body like jade".
